At The GRL Initiative, we believe that knowledge is power—and that real power comes from speaking up, standing tall, and creating change. That’s why when we sat down with The Safety Team, a Vermont-based nonprofit dedicated to preventing violence and supporting survivors, we knew we were aligning with something truly special.
What we learned wasn’t about random attacks or sensationalized stories. It was more honest—and more important.
🚨 Predators Don’t Pounce—They Test
According to The Safety Team, violence doesn’t typically come out of nowhere. Most often, it’s a pattern of behavior—where someone slowly pushes boundaries, gauges reactions, and tests limits to see what they can get away with. It’s rarely about a sudden ambush. It’s about manipulation and power. And recognizing those early red flags can be life-changing.
These insights change how we talk about safety—not with fear, but with awareness, confidence, and clarity.
📍 Consent in Vermont: What You Need to Know
Consent laws in Vermont are not the same as in other states—and that matters.
In Vermont, we’re ahead of the curve in some areas. The law emphasizes affirmative consent, meaning it must be clear, knowing, and voluntary. But there’s still work to be done in ensuring everyone—especially young people—understands what that really means.
The Safety Team does an incredible job breaking down these laws in ways that are relatable and real, empowering Vermonters of all ages with tools they can actually use.
📉 Title IX & the Bleak National Landscape
Across the country, protections for women and survivors are under attack. Rollbacks to Title IX have made it harder for students to report sexual misconduct on campuses. Court rulings are shifting blame. Politicians are debating whether young people should have access to education about consent at all.
The news cycle may be disheartening—but it’s also a wake-up call. We can’t wait for someone else to fix it. We have to take action now.
💪 Why The GRL Initiative Is Here
This is where The GRL Initiative steps in.
We’re not here to tiptoe. We’re here to lead—to raise a generation of GRLs who speak up, support each other, and refuse to be silenced.
We teach self-advocacy.
We normalize conversations about boundaries, consent, and respect.
We give young GRLs the tools they need to stand their ground and trust their gut.
And with powerful allies like The Safety Team, we’re building something stronger than fear—we’re building a community.
